Virginia
McKinnie
Born and reared outside of Memphis, Tennessee,
Virginia McKinnie considers herself to be an outgrowth of the “Southern
magnolia voice.” A professional writer for more
than 25 years, Virginia started her career as a freelance writer
in the country music industry, and then became a technical
writer for a multi-national financial company, where her writing
won industry awards two consecutive years.
With the dawning of the new millennium and
the renewal of her creative self and trust in her own feminine
voice (thanks to Woman Wisdom Training), she struck out on
her own as a teacher and mentor to other creative souls, helping
writers and artists in the community discover and develop their
personal expression. As a writing mentor, Virginia has developed
and facilitated numerous writer’s circles, including
an on-line workshop Writing Your Life Experience, at www.thehealingbridge.org,
which focuses on creating and recognizing our personal healing
process and stories. She has created and taught numerous day-long
workshops, as well as a writing camp for girls that focused
on their personal and social development by using scrapbooking
as a stimulus.
Her poems have appeared in journals and magazines,
including Sage Woman, Mad Poets Review, The Pegasus Review, Watermarks,
and Lucidity, and have received national awards and
honors. She is a Regional Representative for the National Association
of Women Writers and a member of the Pennsylvania Poets Society
and Mad Poets Society.
Virginia has an MA in Literature from the
University of Warwick, England, is a graduate of the three-year
program in Psychosynthesis, a spiritual psychology training,
and is a graduate of Woman Wisdom Training Levels One and Two.
She is currently a teacher of Woman Wisdom Training. For more
than 10 years, Virginia has studied the chakra system and has
received in-depth training with Anodea Judith, Ph.D., focusing
on the energy structures of the chakras, bio-energetic movement,
and psychological and somatic chakra therapy. At the completion
of her training with Ms. Judith, Virginia will be a Certified
Chakra Coach.
She lives in Valley Forge, Pa with her
husband and two teen-age sons, and maintains a private practice
as a Writing Mentor and Creativity Coach and Woman Wisdom Teacher. |
