Note about Levels & Philosophy
CLASS OFFERINGS

Yoga is yoga, it's true. Every bit of it is healing, strengthening, balancing, illuminating and fun. You should try all kinds of styles, classes, teachers and times. You'll find yoga that sings to your soul and yoga that firms up your butt. You'll get attached to specific themes and voices and sequencing. You'll learn that busting out of those attachments and what you are used to, your comfort zone, can teach you even more than you ever thought about your body, your mind and your heart of hearts. You'll get theory, anatomy, poetry and some incredible silliness and laughter. As they say..."it's ALL good".

We don't "level" our classes here at ocean earth, because everyone is welcome all the time and our teachers are gifted and can meet you as an individual whatever your needs are. As a staff, we've hit a level of excitement about bringing our love of yoga into the community, to you!, and decided to rename our offerings with a matching active energy and a happy list of favorite verbs. So instead of our class schedule reading: yoga, yoga, yoga, yoga, yoga, restorative yoga, yoga; it now reflects a vibe and a flavor that helps you to feel our passions and hear our voices. Things might change again one day, and that will be fun too, but for now we hope our excitement will spill over to you, then on to your family and friends...the goodness and bliss of yoga spiraling out in ever-widening circles of grace and light.

Connect
(v) to place or establish in relationship

Wave
(v) to float, play, or shake : move loosely to and fro

introspect (v) to practice introspection; consider one's own internal state or feelings.
Yoga is about awareness. Through heightening awareness of the breath, the body and the mind do we encourage unity. Pranayam is the essential practice in attainment of bodymind unity, as prana, or subtle energy (pranamaya kosha) connects the energies of body (annamayakosha) and mind (manomayakosha and vijnyanamayakosha). Thus in this class we study the many practices of pranayama and their effects on bodymind, we move with breath or study the breath in held postures. We study also alignments and the muscles complexes that are strengthened and stretched, modifying as we need to and using props for individual needs, as every body is different. This class combines restorative, therapeutic and classical asana sequences with a focus on enhancing the flow of energy in the bodymind (the classical intention of yoga asana) followed by structured pratyahara (sense withdrawal) and Dharana (concentration exercises) that lead to meditative states (Dhyana, or meditation, is a state, not a practice). In both asana and meditative practices we study the bodymind and move more deeply into awareness—through introspection.

This class is moderately demanding physically (with modifications as needed) and more intensely demanding on the level of awareness. Asana practice always focuses on balance between strength and flexibility and between warmth and cooling, building toward more demanding stretches, but always with awareness. 75 minute class finishes with a 20 minute meditative, guided relaxation practice. Each class is different.
